Illan Meslier has starred in the early stages of his Leeds United career and indeed his first taste of Premier League football, keeping four clean sheets in 11 matches – and he will be hoping to make that five on Friday night against West Ham.

Meslier, 20, is still new to life at Leeds having only joined the club permanently in the summer – initially moving from Lorient to Elland Road on loan in the summer of 2019. He has since become a fan favourite, though many forget he is still a newbie.

Indeed, the £16,500-a-week (Spotrac) star has made just 22 appearances in a Leeds shirt. In that time, he has produced some impressive stats – keeping 11 clean sheets and conceding only 25 goals. It is that one-in-two clean sheet ratio that fans love.

His demeanour, footballing quality with the ball at his feet and the ability to produce crucial saves at the right times have endeared him to Whites supporters already. Certainly, many see him as a bargain at £5million, and worth a lot more already.

Saves against Abdoulaye Doucoure at Everton while the score was 0-0, Bukayo Saka’s one-on-one chance against Arsenal and John Lundstram’s effort in the 1-0 win over Sheffield United are particular highlights of an already amazing campaign.

Now, he will be looking to maintain his stunning start to life at Leeds with a clean sheet on Friday and he certainly looks in good shape. Leeds posted a training video on their website, including 20 seconds of Meslier producing some stunning saves.
