Liverpool’s Under-19 side showed the senior team how to do it with a stunning 7-0 win over Napoli’s youngsters in the UEFA Youth League – but a video has emerged of captain Curtis Jones telling teammate Harvey Elliott to “shut your mouth”.

Jones, 18, captained Liverpool to a huge victory – scoring a hat-trick himself from midfield. His third goal was the pick of the bunch, producing a thunderous effort from the edge of the box that flew into the top corner in the second half to make it six.

Luis Longstaff got a brace, while Jake Cain and Elijah Dixon-Bonner also got their names on the score sheet for Barry Lewtas’ side. If the Reds avoid defeat against Salzburg next month, they will qualify for the last 16 of the UEFA Youth League.

Jones had the chance to score Liverpool’s second from the penalty spot after 18 minutes, scoring with ease. A video has emerged of Jones telling Elliott to “shut your [his] mouth”, suggesting that the ex-Fulham man wanted to take the penalty.

Jones has clocked up two senior appearances for Liverpool this season, and played 16 times for the Under-23’s and Under-19’s. He has scored 12 goals and laid on six assists in that time, and is showing all the signs of becoming a top, top player.

Elliott, who is still only 16, is proving more of a creative force. Signed from Fulham in the summer, he has four assists in five UEFA Youth League games. Jones posted on his Instagram after the match, saying brothers always bicker.
