Cedric Soares was on the bench for Portugal in their game against North Macedonia yesterday but something the Arsenal man did in training before the game made Cristiano Ronaldo mock him.

A brace from Bruno Fernandes helped Portugal secure a spot in the World Cup in Qatar later this year.

This could well be Ronaldo’s final World Cup and the Portuguese superstar, like all of his teammates, would love nothing more than to go all the way in the tournament to win the biggest prize in football.

Arsenal star Cedric was called-up to the national team after a bunch of impressive performances in the Premier League since Takehiro Tomiyasu’s injury.

In a training session before the game yesterday, Ronaldo, Cedric, Joao Felix and the rest were playing a game of rondo with their heads.

The spotlight, unsurprisingly, was on Ronaldo, who headed the ball beyond Felix into Cedric’s path.

The Arsenal man used his hands for leverage when he jumped to head the ball away. Ronaldo saw Cedric’s hand go up to the side of his chest as he leapt in the air and the Manchester United man found that hilarious.

Cedric has been brilliant for Arsenal recently

Arsenal fans had their hearts in their mouths after it was confirmed that Tomiyasu would be out for a few weeks due to his calf injury.

Cedric is hugely experienced and is a quality player in his own right, but he has had his fair share of problems during his time at the Emirates.

However, the Portugal international has really stepped up in recent weeks. He has held his own on the right side and has formed a very good partnership with Bukayo Saka as well.

With Joao Cancelo available for Portugal, it’s unlikely Cedric will get any game time, but Portugal boss Fernando Santos will know that the £75,000-a-week Arsenal man can be relied upon if needed.
