Victor Wanyama has posted a heartfelt message to Tottenham Hotspur fans after a move to MLS side Montreal Impact was confirmed on Tuesday night – almost four years after first moving to north London from Southampton.

Wanyama, 28, is believed to have joined Montreal on a free transfer (Goal) in a move which sees him link up with Arsenal legend Thierry Henry. He has signed a three-year deal, and become one of Montreal’s three designated players.

The MLS campaign got underway over the weekend, with Henry earning three points in his first match as Montreal manager – beating New England 2-1. Wanyama is likely to be in the Montreal side who travel to FC Dallas on Saturday.

The Kenya captain, who joined Spurs in 2016 from Southampton having worked with Mauricio Pochettino on the south coast, was just three appearances shy of clocking up a century with Tottenham. He posted on Instagram after the move.

Wanyama had only been afforded four appearances this season, clocking up just 122 minutes of action after falling down the pecking order. The signings of Gio Lo Celso and Tanguy Ndombele certainly hampered his chances of game time.

A move to Club Brugge almost materialised in the summer but it is now clear that Wanyama has completed a move to Brugge on a free transfer, and could make his debut this weekend. Wanyama joins up with ex-Spurs defender Luis Binks.
