Serge Aurier returned from injury on Sunday afternoon to help Tottenham Hotspur win a second successive match 4-0, this time against Burnley – and the right-back gained seven-word praise from ex-Spurs man Victor Wanyama.
Aurier, 28, suffered a foot injury in the win over West Brom and has since missed six matches in all competitions – but returned on Sunday, starting the match. He was excellent, as was the rest of the Tottenham side.
Gareth Bale continued his resurgent form, netting a brace and also creating Harry Kane’s strike – while Lucas Moura also got on the score sheet as a Sergio Reguilon cross found it’s way to the Brazilian to slam an effort home.
Aurier posted on Instagram after the match, stating he was happy to be back and delighted to help Spurs get back to winning ways in the Premier League – having lost five of their last six league games.
Aurier continues to be considered first choice above summer signing Matt Doherty and Japhet Tanganga – the latter more naturally a centre-back. Marcel Lavinier made his debut against Wolfsberger last week.
The Ivory Coast international has been good under Mourinho and clearly is considered first choice by the Portuguese gaffer. Plenty of fans praised Aurier, but the right-back also gained plaudits from Wanyama.
