Victor Osimhen to Napoli transfer hours away, West Ham United’s late interest comes to nothing

West Ham United reportedly made a late play to try and sign Lille striker Victor Osimhen, according to reports.

The Nigerian star has been linked with a host of clubs around Europe after a stellar season in Ligue 1.

It now seems as though a long protracted move to Napoli is set to happen.

Sport Mediaset is reporting that Napoli and Lille have come to an agreement over a €50 million (£45m) deal for the forward, which will be paid in five installments of €10 million (£9m) each. Final details are now set to be formalised with it possible Osimhen will be unveiled as a Napoli player later today.

That is despite an apparent move from West Ham late in the day. The same report claims that West Ham showed interest in Osimhen in what would have been a sensational transfer from the Hammers.

West Ham’s name has been rumbling around regarding Osimhen for the past couple of days but it does now appear that the club did indeed make a move for the Nigerian attacker, who scored 18 goals in 38 games for Lille last season.

AreaNapoli reported yesterday that Osimhen would be a major target for West Ham as David Moyes is a massive fan of the player, but it seems the club could not better Napoli’s offer.

Even if they did, it is hard to see how Osimhen, having been linked with some of the best clubs in Europe and wanting to play European football next season, would have chosen a move to the London Stadium.
