The agent of Lille striker Victor Osimhen has explained why a move to Tottenham Hotspur is unlikely for the Nigerian international.
Spurs are one of a number of teams to have been linked with a move for the electric frontman. As reported by TEAMtalk, there were rumours of a potential bid from Jose Mourinho’s side for the player, with a reported (Telefoot) value of £75 million placed on the 21-year-old’s head.
It comes amid several reports of interest in the player, who has impressed many with his 18 goal debut season at the French side.
But despite Tottenham’s apparent interest, the player’s agent has made it clear that his client would not currently consider a move to Spurs, for one simple reason. That reason, as agent Ariyo Igbayilola explained to The Cable, would be the exit of Harry Kane.
“We told Mourinho that if he wants Victor, will Harry Kane be leaving?.
“If Harry Kane is still play(ing) for Tottenham will Victor play? Because he will always be benched for him.
“Kane is their number one striker and he is the captain of England, all these will always work for him in the club but at Victor’s detriment.
“He needs a club where he will always play full game week in, week out. Not to be kept on the bench.”
Undoubtedly, Kane’s presence and status as the undisputed starting striker at Tottenham has often left Spurs with a clear disadvantage when it comes to bringing in much-needed striker cover at the North London club.
Nobody appears ready to play second fiddle to the England captain and Tottenham instead will likely have to target players of a lesser calibre, in order to secure an adequate back-up to the club’s star striker.
As far as Osimhen is concerned, it appears he will not be considering a move to Tottenham until Kane is out of the picture.
