Victor Orta insists Leeds boss Marcelo Bielsa is wrong on one thing

Victor Orta has told the Yorkshire Evening Post that Marcelo Bielsa is absolutely wrong to discount the idea that players join Leeds United because they want to work with him, as he also explained how Raphinha rejected as many four others teams to move to Elland Road.

Leeds fans are catching their breath after what appears to have been a fantastic summer. As well as signing a number of exciting young players, they also managed to sign a handful of internationals.

Rodrigo and Diego Llorente are established in the Spain side. Meanwhile, Robin Koch is starting to prove himself in Germany’s team.

The final statement in the window came when Raphinha signed from Rennes last Monday. Some supporters were certainly nervous as the deal went to the wire. But Orta suggested that it was a move that simply would not have been possible earlier in the summer.

“Raphinha wasn’t available but then was, so we needed to be ready to make a decision.” he told the Yorkshire Evening Post.

“Our aim was to react as soon as possible because, obviously, other teams were trying to target this winger.

“His club signed a young player from Anderlect and decided to prioritise this investment. Raphinha had four or five teams to choose from after a really good season and decided on Leeds.”

Leeds have made a number of statements in the market. As noted by the Yorkshire Evening Post, Bielsa would suggest that they have been able to do this due to the club winning a target over rather than the head coach.

But Orta was emphatic in insisting that this is one area where he and Bielsa do not necessarily see eye to eye.

“For me he is wrong, absolutely wrong. For me one of the reasons a player chooses Leeds United is for Marcelo Bielsa,” he added.

Leeds fans would surely agree with Orta that Bielsa is a key factor as the Whites look to sign players. But the supporters would argue that the boss is also correct in highlighting that the club is also a selling point.

The combination has ensured that Leeds have seemingly enjoyed a superb window and look set for an incredibly exciting future.
