'Very strong': Leeds United star Illan Meslier claims £67m man is 'perfect for Liverpool'

Leeds United goalkeeper Illan Meslier has that Brazilian goalkeeper Alisson Becker is ‘perfect for Liverpool’.

Meslier was speaking to La Media Carre about his time in the Premier League.

The young Frenchman has been a regular for Leeds since their return to England’s top flight.

He’s already attracting attention from elsewhere, with Tottenham reportedly keen on the 22-year-old.

BBC Radio Leeds pundit Matthew Kilgallon has said that Meslier is the best one-on-one keeper in the Premier League.

It’s a skill that Alisson is also well known for being an expert in.

Research last season suggested he prevented more goals in one-v-one situations that any other goalkeeper in the Premier League.

It’s no wonder that Meslier said Alisson was perfect for Liverpool given how good he is at saving these shots, and how high a line Jurgen Klopp’s side play.

Meslier: ‘Alisson is perfect for Liverpool’

The Frenchman was asked about his favourite goalkeeper, and Meslier said: “Alisson because he is a ‘keeper who is perfect for Liverpool.

“Very strong on the line, good footwork and a good recovery. No, really, I think he’s one of the most complete.”

Alisson signed for Liverpool from Roma for £67m in 2018, making him the most expensive goalkeeper in history.

His Liverpool side have struggled this season compared to the high standards they’ve set themselves over recent years.

However, Alisson has been one of the standout performers at Anfield.

He earned the praise of Frank Lampard after his display in the Merseyside derby last month.

Liverpool played poorly against Brighton after the international break, but Klopp singled out the Brazilian for praise after the match.

Klopp may have to keep relying on Alisson to help his side get out of this slump.

He lost Joel Matip and Trent Alexander-Arnold to injury against Arsenal at the weekend, putting more pressure on his senior defenders.

Alisson’s performances have been exemplary since joining Liverpool, and it’s no surprise Meslier thinks he’s perfect for the Reds.
