Arsenal have been linked with a move to re-sign their former academy starlet Donyell Malen in recent times (TalkSPORT). Last night, however, he wasn’t enjoying the best of nights whilst playing for Holland.

The 22-year-old earned his seventh cap for the national team as they were thumped 4-2 by Turkey in Istanbul.

Malan has enjoyed a stunning campaign with PSV, scoring 23 goals and claiming eight assists in all competitions.

The future clearly looks bright for the youngster and Arsenal’s reported interest is no surprise considering.

If anything their decision to let him go in the first place looks something of a shambles and getting him back would be ideal.

Following his performance in last night’s surprise defeat, Football Oranje slated him for his display, however.

The website scored him a 3.5/10 – the lowest rating of any Holland player, including goalkeeper Tim Krul who shipped four goals.

Football Oranje wrote: “Malen is not a winger and he proved that with a very poor performance on the left throughout. Put a good chance straight at the goalkeeper and gave away the penalty.”

TBR View: Struggles will be noted by Arsenal ahead of the summer window

Malen has played through the middle of a centre forward during his time at PSV. If Arsenal sign him, Mikel Arteta should take note of his performance out wide last night and avoid experimenting.

The striker endured a torrid time last night and he will face a fight to get back into Frank de Boer’s plans for future matches.

His club form will still continue to enhance his stock, however, and Arsenal shouldn’t be put off too much.

With Alexandre Lacazette linked with a move away from the club during the summer, Arteta could find himself in the market for another talisman.

Malen could be a decent addition and with bags of potential, he could become an Emirates Stadium hit.
