Some West Ham United fans have been reacting on social media after the Hammers confirmed David Martin had signed a one-year contract extension.
The 35-year-old was set to be a free agent from the end of the month when his previous terms expire. But the goalkeeper has put pen to paper, committing his future to the Irons for a third season.
Martin will serve as the backup for Lukasz Fabianski and Darren Randolph next term, while occupying a role with the academy coaching set-up. He will continue to offer an experienced influence for West Ham’s young hopefuls while pushing Fabianski and co in training.

Martin joined West Ham on a free in 2019 under Manuel Pellegrini and made five appearances during his debut campaign. He has not featured in any competition since losing 1-0 at Sheffield United in January 2020, though.
David Moyes named Martin on the bench for 15 Premier League games last season, plus two EFL Cup ties. Yet the former England U19 international is delighted to be staying at the London Stadium for another year.
“To be at a club I’ve supported all my life, and to have the opportunity to stay for another year, it means everything,” Martin told West Ham’s club website. “Being a positive vibe around the place is very important to me – to try and help the lads in whatever way I can.”

And Martin’s delight at signing a new contract is shared by parts of the West Ham fans. That’s after some took to social media to laud the news of his one-year extension.
Some also praised the influence the former Millwall shot-stopper has behind the scenes in east London. While others added that Martin should now deserve more minutes with Moyes’ side set to compete in the Europa League.
