Ange Postecoglou has changed so much about Tottenham.
The Australian has implemented a whole new style of play at Spurs, and while results as of late have been iffy, it’s impossible to deny that the gaffer has changed a lot about the club in a short space of time.
It’s not just on the pitch where Postecoglou is having an impact as well. He’s also doing his bit in terms of recruitment.
Indeed, despite the fact the likes of Daniel Levy, Johan Lange and even Fabio Paratici all have parts to play in Spurs’ recruitment system these days, Postecoglou is often the clincher in these deals.
Numerous players have told tales of how they had phone calls from the manager this summer before signing, and now, speaking to Tottenham’s official YouTube channel, Guglielmo Vicario has shared a similar story.

Guglielmo Vicario’s phone call with Postecoglou
The Italian shared details of his conversation with his gaffer.
“He called me and it was a very good call. He knew everything about me, about my past, my style of play and my character. He said to me a very important and proud thing saying that we both started from the bottom and went through our struggles of life and our career. That for me at that time was so important to hear about the man, and I have no doubts to join him and to join Spurs because I think we can do brilliant work together,” Vicario said.
Convincing
To be honest, leaving Empoli for Tottenham should be a no-brainer in any case, but it sounds as though this conversation with Postecoglou was the icing on the cake for Vicario.
This is what makes Postecoglou such a great manager though, he knows his players better than they know themselves sometimes, and that ability to connect with them personally and get inside their minds will help Postecoglou get the best out of his players.
Vicario has proven to be a fantastic signing, and Spurs have their manager to thank for that.
