'Very happy here': 'Top' Tottenham player suggests he has no intention of leaving
Tottenham Hotspur defender Emerson Royal has dropped a hint over his future amid speculation with a move away.
The 23-year-old told Sky Sports – in a Twitter post shared by The Spurs Web – that he’s “very happy” at Tottenham.
Emerson joined Spurs from Barcelona last summer and has made 39 competitive appearances for the Lilywhites.
He has had a mixed maiden season at N17, with some flashes of quality but also some underwhelming displays.
In the draw against Brentford last time out, the Brazilian delivered what football.london deemed a “now trademark performance”, giving him 4/10.
“Solid enough in his defensive work,” added the outlet. “But offered very little going forward other than one ball across the box to set up Kane for a half-chance.”
But there have also been some good performances, like the one in February’s 3-1 FA Cup win over Brighton.
Emerson forced a first-half own goal from Solly March to put Spurs 2-0 up and was bright throughout.
Antonio Conte loved what he saw at the time, telling football.london his player gave a “really top performance”.
The Tottenham boss also said: “Don’t forget that also Emerson is only 23 years old and to come here and play in another league is not simple.”
“Great learning curve”
Earlier this month, Emerson told Cadena Ser – via Futaa – that he was aware of interest in him from Atletico Madrid.
The former Barca man stressed he was in a “good moment” at Tottenham.
However, he added: “I don’t know what will happen in the future. I like that other teams are watching my football.”
Now, speaking to Sky Sports, Emerson provided another update regarding his desire to stay at Tottenham.
“It’s been a great learning curve, I’ve been very happy here,” he said.
“I’ve been learning about all kinds of different things. Culture, language, even food.
“So it’s been a massive development for my personal and professional life.”
