‘Very good relationship’: Amadou Onana now admits ‘incredible’ Everton player is always giving him advice

Everton midfielder Amadou Onana had admitted he’s already learnt a lot from teammate Idrissa Gueye.

Onana was speaking to the club’s official website after Everton’s 0-0 draw against Fulham.

The pair started in midfield together with Alex Iwobi playing in front of them and enjoyed a great battle at Craven Cottage.

They were up against Harrison Reed and Joao Palhinha, who are both in fine form for Fulham right now.

Neither side massively dominated the midfield, which was reflected in the final score.

Onana once again showed the best assets of his game against Fulham, hassling players out of possession before accelerating past defenders on the ball.

It’s a performance that may have reminded the Fulham fans of another Belgian who used to turn out at Craven Cottage: Mousa Dembele.

Onana already has plenty of fans at Goodison Park, and Frank Lampard could easily build his future Everton team around him.

Gueye is at a very different stage of his career, and is now in a position where he can pass on some of his knowledge of Onana.

Onana has learnt from Gueye

Speaking to the club’s official website about his midfield partner, Gueye said: “I think we understand each other off the pitch and you can see it on the pitch. We have a very good relationship.

“We are also growing together, and we are getting used to playing with each other.

“I already knew the player he is and the man he is [before playing alongside him].

“He is a very experienced player, he played in Paris and at the highest level you can play.

“He is a very good player and he gives me very good advice.”

The ‘incredible’ midfielder was one of Lampard’s top transfer targets in the summer, and eventually arrived from PSG.

In fact, Lampard tipped Onana off when he signed for Everton that Gueye would be following him through the door.

His experience at PSG and with the Senegal national team will be invaluable to Everton this season.

Lampard’s side have looked so much more defensively sound than last season, and Gueye and Onana are both a part of that.

It’s possible to already see that Onana is starting to learn from Gueye, and he’s got plenty of time to continue improving.

Everton fans may even be able to see Onana join up with the Belgium squad at the World Cup next month.

It would be a worthy award for a young man who has adapted to life in the Premier League brilliantly.
