‘Very fragile’: Mark Lawrenson offers Leeds verdict ahead of Arsenal clash

Leeds United and Arsenal is the only Premier League game to be going ahead today and Mark Lawrenson has issued a worrying verdict for Leeds fans ahead of the clash.

The Whites have managed to name a starting XI of relative experience despite being riddled with injuries. Joe Gelhardt though is needed up top again, while Cody Drameh starts at right back. The Leeds bench is also full of youth, with teenagers filling the slots.

Arsenal, meanwhile, have named a full-strength line up and will see this as a big opportunity for another three points.

And according to BBC Pundit Mark Lawrenson, Leeds could once again struggle due to their defensive issues under Marcelo Bielsa.

“Why are Leeds struggling? Injuries. For half of the season they’ve missed Phillips and Bamford. They can hardly put a team out. Teams have worked out how they play. Defensively they are very fragile,” Lawrenson commented for BBC Live.

Leeds desperately need a win and will be hoping the roar of Elland Road can help them along. Indeed, the hammering at Man City in midweek has done nothing for the Leeds players’ confidence.

Lawrenson’s verdict on Leeds is right. They are a bit weak at the back and their high pressing style has been fathomed a bit by the opposition. However, you can never write Leeds off under Bielsa.

They were within minutes of a result at Chelsea. The City game, obviously, was a bit of a one off.

Arsenal, meanwhile, will fancy this one. A weakened team with little to come off the bench should encourage Mikel Arteta’s side to well and truly go for it. If the Gunners do somehow lose this one, then the fans will not be impressed one iota.
