Leon Osman ‘didn’t really see’ Leeds United show the same defensive fragility at Leicester on Saturday that they were accustomed to under Marcelo Bielsa as Jesse Marsch lost on debut, speaking on BBC’s Final Score (5/3, 14:42).
The Whites began their new era under the American at the King Power Stadium after sacking Bielsa last week. But Marsch was unable to see the Elland Road outfit secure a first Premier League win since January 16 at West Ham.
Leeds are now seven games without victory after five consecutive defeats, to remain firmly in the relegation fight. Yet Marsch could take plenty of positives from his new side’s efforts and how they adapted after Bielsa’s departure.

Leeds had several chances to go ahead at Leicester with a lively and energetic start from the Marsch’s side. But they would rue lacklustre shooting from Jack Harrison and Raphinha, plus outstanding work from Kasper Schmeichel.
Harvey Barnes would reward Schmeichel’s heroics in the Foxes’ net by scoring the sole goal of the game after 67-minutes. The winger drilled in a quality finish past Illan Meslier after a one-two with Kelechi Iheanacho.
Osman praises ‘more organised’ Leeds in Marsch debut as Bielsa’s successor
Losing on debut will frustrate Marsch, but Leeds showed plenty of positives at Leicester in their first match without Bielsa. Osman particularly noted how improved defensively the Whites seemed at the King Power on Saturday.
“Leeds played very well,” Osman said. “They were on the front foot. They conceded the goal, but I’ve seen so many Leeds performances of late where they’ve been so open. I didn’t really see that today.

“They were a lot more organised and pressed in zones, which is very different from what they’ve done. If they continue that, especially at home, I can see them picking up the necessary points.”
Leeds had produced the Premier League’s worst defensive record under Bielsa this season with 60 goals conceded in 26 games. Yet they were the more imposing side at Leicester under Marsch, and gave up few chances.
Per WhoScored, the Foxes only enjoyed four shots on target from seven attempts. Barnes also scored from their first on-target shot in the second-half. While Leeds struck 19 shots, but will want to improve their four on target.
