Tottenham Hotspur left-back Sergio Reguilon was in action for Spain last night as the 2010 world champions fought back to earn a draw against the Netherlands.
The Spurs summer signing was named on the bench by Luis Enrique for the friendly in Amsterdam, but came on as a substitute in the 29th minute for the injured Jose Gaya.
Sadly, Reguilon’s display for La Roja was not highly rated by sections of the Spanish press.

El Desmarque gave the £28million man a 4/10 rating and wrote: “Too fast at times, which caused him to provoke some dangerous fouls in favor of the Netherlands. A mistake could’ve ended in a goal for De Jong.”
Marca, meanwhile, wrote in their Spanish online edition: “He could not clear the ball at 1-1 (for the equaliser) and committed a very dangerous foul shortly after for which he saw yellow. Was more in tune in the second half.”
However, Marca’s English edition was a little kinder, saying: “Always an option down the left side in attack. Committed a foul on the edge of the box which handed him a yellow.”
The foul in question was in the 49th minute, when Reguilon stepped across the back of Denzel Dumfries to give away a free kick just outside the box.
Enrique fielded a largely experimental line-up for the friendly, with Athletic Bilbao’s Unai Simon earning his debut.
Hector Bellerin also won his first cap since 2016, while a number of substitutes were brought on during the game.
Sergio Canales gave Spain the lead in the 18th minute but Manchester United midfielder Donny van de Beek struck a 47th-minute equaliser, Reguilon and Inigo Martinez failing to deal with the floated cross in the build-up.
TBR View:
A bad day at the office for Reguilon, perhaps, as his fourth cap didn’t quite go to plan.
However, with it having been just a friendly, he’ll have time to iron out these flaws by the time the next game – the Nations League trip to Switzerland on Saturday – comes by.
Whether Reguilon gets game time then depends on how quickly Gaya recovers from his clash of heads during the match, which led to him getting his head stapled on the pitch before coming off.
