Leeds United took a significant step towards promotion to the Premier League yesterday with a 1-0 win over Sheffield Wednesday.
The Whites now hold a three-point advantage on Sheffield United who could only draw at home to Millwall.
It was the second win of the week for Marcelo Bielsa’s team who ran out 2-0 winners at Preston North End in midweek.
Kemar Roofe, Pablo Hernandez and Patrick Bamford have taken the goalscoring plaudits this season. Pontus Jansson and Liam Cooper have earned praise for their defensive resolve.
One man has slipped under the radar, but of late his quality has shone through. That man is Tyler Roberts.
When he arrived from West Bromwich Albion he was seen as an unknown quantity to many supporters. The £2.5 million transfer fee (BBC Sport) offered some indication that he had bags of potential.
The 20-year-old has been forced to wait patiently for an opportunity this season, having missed the back end of the last campaign with an injury.
In the last few months, however, he has looked the part. Three goals and five assists have been contributed by Roberts, who now looks worth every penny.
The work he does for his team-mates has been desperately impressive and he looks like he could have a seriously bright future.
His versatility and ability to do the ugly stuff in the attack has made him invaluable during the last couple of months.
If Leeds do win promotion, the next challenge for Roberts is to prove his worth at Premier League level.
