‘Versatile enough’: Nuno shares tactical plan he’s mulling over for £27m Tottenham star

Tottenham boss Nuno Espirito Santo has shared he’s mulling over the idea of playing Heung-Min Son in a more central position this season.

Nuno, who’s been appointed the new Spurs manager this summer, is preparing for his first competitive game in charge this weekend. His side will face defending champions Manchester City during the first round of Premier League fixtures.

With speculation still flying around about Spurs centre-forward Kane, it’s going to be interesting to see how Nuno shapes his attack. 

Son, 29, is an attacker that has been a goal machine in his own right for several years. He contributed a staggering 22 goals and 17 assists last season across all competitions for the north London club.

The £27million South Korean ace usually operates as a left-winger and is such a dangerous threat drifting into an inside channel. 

However, he’s occasionally played more centrally.

Portuguese coach Nuno seems to suggest that Spurs fans may see more of Son in the middle of the pitch.

“Yes I do,” Nuno responded when asked if he can see Son playing more through the middle this season.

“That’s why we decide to play Sonny with Lucas [Moura] and Steven [Bergwijn] on the wide areas because we believe with the talent he has he can do good things. Son is a player who can, besides all the talent, has energy and has adaptability and is versatile enough to play in different positions in the front three, one of those in the central areas.”

Tottenham can’t risk changing Son’s game

IF Kane goes, Son can’t be the direct replacement.

A new proven centre-forward needs to be signed if Spurs lose the England captain because it’s not fair to shift all of that pressure onto Son.

There is no doubt Son is already an integral figure in the XI and the team needs his goals.

However, he’s made a name for himself as an inverted winger, so you risk so much if you change his position.
