‘Verbal agreement’: £12m Newcastle player has agreed to join Bayern Munich

Kieran Trippier has agreed to join Bayern Munich this month and could well leave Newcastle before the end of the window.

Trippier to Bayern has emerged from nowhere in the last couple of days and after first appearing unlikely, it could very much be on the cards.

According to Sky Sports Germany’s Florian Plettenberg, there is now a verbal agreement in place between Trippier and Bayern and the Newcastle right-back wants the move.

Taking to X on social media, Plettenberg has confirmed some of the details of the move, albeit there are still some hurdles to overcome.

Adding further credence to the story, Fabrizio Romano has also taken to X to provide an update.

The famed transfer journalist has claimed that the move is now up to Bayern as to if they push for Trippier or continue to pursue Mukiele from PSG.

A real blow

This has come out of nowhere for Newcastle fans and losing Kieran Trippier to Bayern at this point in the season will sting.

The England full-back is one of the most experienced and quality players in the squad and it seems a strange decision from the club to allow this to happen.

Of course, more details will follow and it remains to be seen if a fee will be involved. If the fee is big, then Newcastle may see selling a 33-year-old as part of a good long-term strategy.

However, for Eddie Howe and his injury hit squad, losing their captain and best defender – on his day – will be hard to get over.

Right now, everyone knows Newcastle need a midfielder. But the idea of losing Trippier to make sure they get that midfielder seems odd.

Magpies fans, then, will be hoping for some clarity on this sooner or later and a bit of direction as to why they’re allowing it to happen.
