Steven Gerrard is expected to leave Rangers for Villa, and Giovanni van Bronckhorst has discussed his future – amid reports he wants the Ibrox job.
In a move that has come about incredibly quickly after Dean Smith’s exit, 41-year-old Gerrard is on the verge of being announced, as per TalkSPORT.
The Rangers gaffer’s spell in charge, which includes an unbeaten Scottish Premiership title, has convinced Villa to move – costing less than £3million.
Reports from The Sun overnight state that 46-year-old van Bronckhorst is keen on a return to Rangers. He played at Rangers between 1998 and 2001.
Clocking up 117 games for the Gers, he scored 22 goals – winning two league titles and five trophies in total. He wants to return, this time as a manager.
Speaking about his future this week, the 106-time Netherlands international spoke of his desire to return to management – but only at the right club.

“I’ve had a lot of time lately to be at home,” van Bronckhorst told the Herald. That was a bit more difficult in recent years.
“Now I have the sense and energy to take on a great challenge. It is important in that regard – which club is it, and does it suit me?”
Van Bronckorst on future: Rangers do everything they can
Rangers have been linked with Swansea gaffer and ex-Gers loanee Russell Martin, while Ally McCoist suggested the sacked Villa boss Dean Smith.
But of all the candidates linked with the job, van Bronckhorst is absolutely perfect. He knows Rangers better than any other candidates.
Even more so than Gerrard, when the Liverpool icon moved to Ibrox in 2018. But also, van Bronckhorst has shown he can do it as a manager.
Clocking up 176 games as Feyenoord gaffer – he won five trophies, including the 2016-17 Eredivisie title. He has also managed in China.
If Rangers can get him, amid reports he is keen on the job, then they absolutely have to do everything they can to lure him to Glasgow.
