Valentino Lazaro should be unleashed in attack by Newcastle in FA Cup

Valentino Lazaro only arrived at St James’ Park in the January transfer window, but he’s had a bit of a rough start to life as a Newcastle United player.

The 23-year-old joined the Magpies on loan for the rest of the season from Inter Milan and so far has been deployed as a right wing-back by manager Steve Bruce.

He’s made three Premier League appearances so far, including an extremely difficult game where he received a red card against Crystal Palace.

The Austrian hasn’t looked comfortable with his defensive work and it’s no surprise to see that Inter used him further forward in the first half of the season.

Despite only being used as a wing-back so far by Newcastle, Bruce should try him out in a new attacking position in midweek.

Newcastle travel to Championship leaders West Brom on Tuesday night in the FA Cup and know that victory will put them into the quarter-finals of the prestigious tournament.

Lazaro may have been caught out with his back to goal, but there have certainly been signs that he can contribute going forward and he could add something extra to the team in that area of the pitch.

He is a speed machine that can breeze past opponents and has decent crossing into the penalty area too.

The wide player massively impressed in the first-half of the defeat to Arsenal and it looks blatantly obvious that he’s more of a winger than a full-back.

Lazaro will be fresh after serving a one-game suspension against Burnley at the weekend and he should get a second chance in the cup to show what he can offer Newcastle as a forward.
