Uwe Rosler flop Will Buckley keeps Bolton in touch with Leeds United

Leeds United might be surpassing expectations so far this season. The West Yorkshire side are top of the Championship after an excellent start to the campaign. However, there was undoubtedly a few people who felt this was possible, owing to their appointment of Marcelo Bielsa in the summer.

However, whilst Leeds are top on goal difference, two other teams are level on 10 points. Middlesbrough are no surprise and are expected to be there or thereabouts come May. But Bolton Wanderers?

Phil Parkinson’s men have started the season brilliantly, despite being tipped by many for relegation. Last night that form continued with a 1-0 win against Birmingham City.

The scorer on the night, to keep Bolton in touch with Leeds, was a player fans at Elland Road will not remember fondly.

Will Buckley scored the winner yesterday.

The 28-year-old was signed in October from Sunderland with Leeds fans hoping he could rekindle his excellent form at Brighton with the Elland Road side.

However, his time at Leeds was forgettable. Signed by Uwe Rosler, the German was sacked two weeks later. His replacement Steve Evans did not fancy him and, Buckley did little to change his mind.

After just four appearances, he was sent back to the Black Cats.

But he is now one of many misfits, along with fellow Leeds reject Luke Murphy, who have banded together to make Bolton a solid looking team for the new campaign.

Who knows? Maybe they could challenge Leeds until the end of the season.
