‘Useless’: Rangers fans rip into Lassana Coulibaly after display v Villarreal

Rangers recorded a goalless draw against Villarreal in the Europa League on Thursday night – and some of the club’s supporters nailed midfielder Lassana Coulibaly for his display.

The Light Blues were held to a 0-0 draw at Ibrox against the Spanish club, which means they need to win their final group stage match against Rapid Vienna to progress.

The Gers had to play the entire second-half with just 10 men, as Daniel Candeias was given a second booking just before half-time.

Steven Gerrard’s side owe their goalkeeper Allan McGregor massively after his brilliant individual display, as he made a couple of eye-catching saves to help his team hold out for a point.

A selection of Rangers fans on social media decided to single out midfielder Coulibaly for his performance and believe he was well off the pace.

The 22-year-old midfielder had to do a lot of defensive work with his team against the wall and only showed glimpses of his driving attacking runs.

He impressed supporters during the early stages of the season following his arrival on loan and has continued to be an important first teamer in Gerrard’s time.

But his levels appear to have dipped somewhat and some supporters have taken note.

Here are some Rangers fans tweets criticising Coulibaly:
