Tottenham Hotspur’s squad that headed to the USA for their pre-season tour had a number of notable absentees. Considering that Spurs had more players than any other team in the final four of the World Cup this comes as no surprise. But whilst the likes of Harry Kane, Hugo Lloris and Dele Alli are understandable absentees, others were less so.
Vincent Janssen and Marcus Edwards have been left behind, perhaps confirming they are on their way out of the club.
But why was Josh Onomah not present?
His absence led to some conspiracy theories regarding his potential involvement in the Jack Grealish transfer, considering he spent last season on loan at Villa Park. In fact, the England youth star is suffering with a knee injury, which is an understandable reason to miss the tour.

But has injury now cost him his biggest chance to make a Tottenham impression?
With the likes of Alli, Eric Dier, Mousa Dembele and Christian Eriksen not yet with the squad and Harry Winks still nursing his ankle injury this was Onomah’s perfect chance to shine.
Instead, he is back at home resting a knee problem.
At 21-year-old he needs to be playing regular football but that now seems very unlikely to be at Tottenham. After an inconsistent spell at Aston Villa last term, where he divided fan opinion, a better location is needed if he heads out on loan again.
But failure to launch again in 2018-19 may see Tottenham abort on Onomah altogether.
