West Ham United’s frustrating start to the new Premier League campaign continued with a 1-1 draw against Brighton on Saturday. The Irons went a goal up in the second half via Javier Hernandez, but their lead only lasted four minutes before the Seagulls equalised.
All in all, a point was all that the Hammers deserved. Manuel Pellegrini’s side lacked attacking incision and end product. What’s more, they were too reliant upon goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski at the back. One of the few bright spots for West Ham was the performance of Manuel Lanzini.
The Argentine attacking-midfielder missed almost all of last season due to a cruciate ligament rupture. However, he looked close to being back to his best on Saturday. The travelling West Ham fans will have been delighted to see the 26-year-old in such a confident, attacking mood. Lanzini was not afraid to take his opponents on and was only too happy to run with the ball. He posed a threat to the Brighton back line throughout the match.
There aren’t too many positives for Pellegrini to take from his side’s showing against Brighton, but the influence of Lanzini is certainly one of them.
After the match, plenty of West Ham fans took to Twitter to praise Lanzini’s display.

All in all not a bad point. Lanzini looked good. Not sure about the last sub but better than a loss in the end.
