John McGinn completed 90 minutes in the win over Swansea City on Saturday – and some Aston Villa fans on Twitter went wild about the quality of their midfielder’s performance.

Manager Dean Smith kicked off his spell as Villa manager with a narrow 1-0 home victory, which means they are just three points adrift of the play-off spots in the Championship.

The Midlands giants scored the only goal of the game in the eighth minute, as in-form centre-forward Tammy Abraham headed in the winner.

He has made an impressive start to life at Villa since he joined on loan from Chelsea and has now scored four goals already this season.

But it was teammate midfielder McGinn who grabbed the attention of supporters on social media after his impact on the win over Swansea.

McGinn only moved to the West Midlands club in the summer from Hibernian and has made a great impression at the beginning of his time in England.

He is a tenacious central midfielder with an immense work-rate and he covered every blade of grass against Swansea, where he showed his strengths in tackling.

The Scotsman has been arguably the club’s best player so far this campaign and will unfortunately be without him for their next game due to a suspension.

A selection of Villa fans praised McGinn for his all-action display and are delighted that he signed in the summer.

Here are some of the Villa tweets on the midfielder:
