'Unnoticed': Aaron Ramsdale says player Arsenal sold is now shining at the World Cup without people realising

Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale has lavished praise on Olivier Giroud before England face him tomorrow night.

Giroud has been thrust back into a really central role because Karim Benzema picked up an injury which ruled him out on the eve of the tournament.

The striker sold by Arsenal was the starting frontman when France won the 2018 World Cup, but with Benzema back in the side, they only reached the last 16 of Euro 2020.

Ramsdale told TalkSPORT that for all the talk of Kylian Mbappe, England cannot just focus on him and that Giroud is one of those having a good tournament under the radar.

Ramsdale praises Giroud

The Gunners stopper said: “(Mbappe)’s one of the best players in the world, if not the best, but it doesn’t say England vs Mbappe.

“Giroud is going unnoticed as France’s top scorer. So we have to be aware of him.

“(Ousmane) Dembele is playing really well, Griezmann is always a threat and you have a lot of players on the bench.

“You don’t become world champions with one player, you become world champions with 23 or 26.”

Giroud often does not get the credit he deserves but he helps the likes of Mbappe play better and he is a threat in the box.

On paper, he is the kind of striker Harry Maguire should be able to deal with tomorrow night, but it will still be a really tough night for England.

The excitement for the big game is building all the time but it will be Jordan Pickford, not Ramsdale, charged with keeping Mbappe, Giroud and the rest of Didier Deschamps’ men quiet.
