Tottenham Hotspur were linked with a surprise move for Watford midfielder Will Hughes over the weekend.
According to The Daily Mail, Spurs are keen on landing the 25-year-old, whom Jose Mourinho is supposedly a big fan.
The report suggests the player would cost the north Londoners around £13 million following the Hornet’s relegation to the Championship.

Hughes has been with Watford since 2017, joining from Derby County.
To date, he has made 77 top-flight appearances and impressed Hornets fans with his versatility and work-rate.
Whether this Tottenham ‘interest’ will develop further remains to be seen, but there is one man who would certainly be negatively impacted by any transfer.
Gedson Fernandes has been working away trying to establish himself in the starting XI since signing on an 18-month loan deal from Benfica in January.
An unlikely move for Hughes would make his life at Tottenham a whole lot more difficult.
TBR’s View – Hughes and Gedson are similar players
Arguably it is Gedson who would be most stung by any arrival of Hughes.

Harry Winks and new signing Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg are specifically deep-lying midfielders, while Dele Alli and Erik Lamela operate as number 10s.
Moussa Sissoko does play in the middle and on the right, but appears to be well-liked by Mourinho.
Gedson is a central midfielder who can also play on the right – which are the two most common positions for Hughes.
The Portugal international has found regular minutes hard to come by since joining – Hughes potentially arriving on the scene would make his life a whole lot harder.
