Sunderland are looking like being in the running for the League One promotion places. The Black Cats certainly have started the season well. But it is looking like yet another tough campaign in the third tier. The likes of Peterborough, Portsmouth, Barnsley and Fleetwood Town all look dangerous.
Sunderland may need to find another edge if they are to beat out that competition to automatic promotion. One man who might be able to bring that is Aiden McGeady.
Signed by Simon Grayson last summer the Irishman has not had it easy at the Stadium of Light. Although his record of seven goals and five assists last season might put him in the very small category of players who did ok for Sunderland in 2017-18, they did still suffer relegation. He was also not a regular starter for the club and will feel he has unfinished business with Sunderland.

The 32-year-old has not yet had a chance to shine in the third-tier due to injury.
However, he is stepping up his progress from the calf problem and could be a phenomenal option at this level.
His trickery and crossing ability will give Sunderland an extra dimension from out wide.
If Sunderland find themselves on the periphery of the automatic spaces when McGeady is back in the fore, he could easily be the missing link to push them over that line.
