Peter Crouch played in one of the most exciting Tottenham teams in recent memory.
Spurs weren’t ultra-successful under Harry Redknapp, but they had a fantastic group of players who could ruffle a few feathers.
We all know that the likes of Gareth Bale, Rafael Van der Vaart and Luka Modric were stars, but speaking on the Official Tottenham Hotspur Podcast, Peter Crouch has named a few unsung heroes at Spurs during that period.
Indeed, Crouch has named a few players he thinks were underrated at Tottenham such as Benoit Assou-Ekotto, Michael Dawson and, interestingly, Vedran Corluka.

Corluka was underrated
Crouch spoke about some of his former teammates and the one-time £7m Tottenham signing.
“Player wise there were so many unsung heroes. Assou-Ekotto was a top player, Corluka I thought was underrated, Michael Dawson as well was an underrated player, there were a lot of players in that team who were better than people thought.
Massively underrated
Corluka is a player who was really underrated during his career – not just at Tottenham.
Yes, he wasn’t a superstar, but he was a steady, reliable and versatile defender who would’ve been so useful in this more modern era.
He came into his own later in his career as he played a part in Croatia’s international success later in his career, but during his time in the Premier League, he wasn’t necessarily appreciated as much as he should’ve been.
It’s strange to say it about a player who wasn’t really that big of a name, but Corluka was ahead of his time in a lot of ways, and he’d probably be quite a reliable asset for a top Premier League side these days.
That Tottenham team was packed full of underrated talents, and Corluka may well be the one player, above any of the others, who deserves more recognition than he ever got.
