‘Undergoing treatment’… Porto confirm major injury blow as ‘top-class’ player could now miss Arsenal clash

Arsenal’s Champions League opponents Porto could now be without star striker Mehdi Taremi for Wednesday’s clash.

The attention turns to Champions League action this week with Arsenal travelling to Portugal to take on Porto.

The Gunners are in blistering Premier League form right now, scoring 11 times in their last two games without conceding a single goal.

Porto may well be a tougher test this week and Arsenal will be looking for a positive first-leg result ahead of the home leg in North London.

Porto have though suffered a major blow ahead of the game with one star player now at risk of missing out…

Mehdi Taremi injury confirmed

Reports from B24 in Portugal earlier today suggested that Porto striker Mehdi Taremi had suffered a thigh injury ahead of facing Arsenal.

Porto have now confirmed that news on their official website, stating that Taremi has ‘suffered an injury to the adductor of his right thigh in training on Sunday’.

It’s stated that Taremi is ‘undergoing treatment’ alongside fellow injured players Gonçalo Ribeiro, Ivan Marcano and Zaidu Sanusi.

Taremi will now be in a race against time to face Arsenal with Porto no doubt doing everything they can to get him fit.

Taremi would be a huge miss for Porto

The Iranian striker is in his final months as a Porto player as he prepares to join Inter Milan.

Taremi has been Porto’s attacking talisman in recent years but has endured something of a dip this season, scoring just three times in 16 league games.

Yet with two goals and two assists in six Champions League outings this season, Taremi would have been one of Porto’s main threats.

Hailed as ‘top-class’ by Fabio Capello, Taremi was even offered to Arsenal in January 2022 but Edu seemingly didn’t fancy signing him.

Arsenal will be aware of Taremi’s ability and his injury will certainly be a major dent to Porto’s preparations ahead of Wednesday’s clash.
