Everton manager Marco Silva has been given a vote of confidence from Farhad Moshiri after a torrid run of results, as reported by the Daily Mail.
They report that Silva feels he has had the right assurances from the Toffees owner about his job security – that he will be given time and patience to lead Everton forward.
However, the vote of confidence can be seen as ‘dreaded’ – a precursor to an owner losing his nerve and pulling the trigger on a manager and it remains to be seen if that is the case at Goodison Park.
And tonight’s match provides no respite for Silva; the visit of reigning champions Manchester City is as tough as they come – and there are other complications as well.

City are of course battling with Everton’s bitter rivals Liverpool for the title and would return to the top of the Premier League with a victory, making the most of the Reds’ recent wobble.
Silva needs a big performance to convince his employers of his credentials but some supporters would perhaps be less than thrilled if an unlikely victory handed Liverpool a boost in the title race.
Perhaps more important than that is that City look to have their mojo back and Everton are defending woefully at present – raising the prospect of another morale-sapping home loss and further worsening the mood around Goodison.
