‘Unbelievable’ Tottenham player may have just saved his Spurs career after stunning display vs Hearts

One player surprised many Tottenham Hotspur fans with his performance in the friendly against Hearts.

Ange Postecoglou’s pre-season is well and truly underway, and his side have picked up two huge wins already, albeit against smaller sides.

Tottenham smashed Cambridge United 7-2 in a behind-closed-doors friendly last week and on Wednesday night, they picked up a fantastic 5-1 victory over Hearts at Tynecastle Park.

A number of Spurs players impressed in Scotland, but one in particular may have saved his Tottenham career with his display against the SPFL side.

Djed Spence produces a stunning performance for Tottenham vs Hearts

Tottenham signed Djed Spence from Middlesbrough in the summer of 2022 in a deal worth up to £20 million (Sky Sports).

The talented full-back was viewed as a fantastic signing at the time. Spurs beat many top clubs in the race to sign him two years ago.

However, Antonio Conte just didn’t fancy Spence at Tottenham and he has barely had a look in since – he has made just six senior appearances for the North Londoners.

After a successful loan spell in Italy last season, all signs pointed towards a permanent move to Genoa in this window. They even had an option to buy him.

However, Spence returned to Tottenham training after that transfer collapsed, and he was given an opportunity by Postecoglou against Hearts.

The ‘unbelievable‘ 23-year-old had a truly outstanding game. He scored a goal and picked up an assist in the second half and looked incredibly solid.

TBR Football gave Spence a 10/10 rating for his performance on Wednesday night, and that display may have just saved his Tottenham career.

Everyone expected Spence to be sold this summer, but he has now given some food for thought to Postecoglou, who could decide to keep hold of him.

Spence showed he’s better than one current Tottenham player

Tottenham picked up a fantastic win against Hearts, but they were made to work hard.

The Scottish side were up for it, and Spurs’ defending gave them a few chances. Brandon Austin produced one incredible save in goal.

Hearts’ only goal of the game came in the 46th minute, and that was following a mistake by Emerson Royal at the back. The Brazilian has made a few of those during his Spurs career.

Emerson has publicly claimed that he isn’t happy at Tottenham, and it is expected that he will be sold in the coming weeks.

That opens the door for Spence to nail down a place in the squad, and if he keeps performing well in pre-season, Postecoglou could be tempted to keep hold of him.

That would help Tottenham save millions as they wouldn’t have to sign a new right-back to replace Emerson.
