'Unbelievable': Steve McManaman utterly stunned by £150k-a-week Liverpool player today
Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker has been praised by Anfield icon Steve McManaman for his efforts against Southampton.
The Reds stopper was one of the standout players in the 3-1 win over the Premier League strugglers on Saturday.
Despite the relatively comfortable scoreline, Southampton had several superb chances against Liverpool.
However, Alisson was in outstanding form, denying Mohamed Elyounoussi, Samuel Edozie and Che Adams in the second half.
The save he pulled off to keep out Adams’ header was especially outstanding.
The Saints forward headed goalwards from point-blank range, only for Alisson to claw the ball out of danger.
“[Alisson] made three unbelievable saves to keep Liverpool ahead,” said the former Liverpool ace.
“He’s been great all season. Nunez will get the praise but Alisson was fantastic today.”
Roberto Firmino had opened the scoring for Liverpool on six minutes, only for Adams to equalise three minutes later.
Darwin Nunez went on to score a brace to make it 3-1 at half-time, a lead the Reds would not relinquish.
Liverpool have certainly had their fair share of issues this season, but Alisson has been a rock for them.
And with things finally sticking together, his exploits will surely a long way in pursuit of glory this season.
