Tottenham Hotspur have suffered a big blow ahead of the start of the new season.
Spurs were troubled with a number of injuries throughout the 2024/25 campaign, and that is one of the biggest reasons why they struggled in the Premier League under Ange Postecoglou.
Daniel Levy would’ve hoped for things to change after he appointed Thomas Frank, but unfortunately for him, James Maddison has ruptured his ACL and will be out for months.
Tottenham needed a new attacking midfielder before the Englishman’s injury. Now, it has become even more of a priority.
Luckily for Spurs, there is some good news about one of their targets.
James McAtee is ‘very keen’ on joining Tottenham from Manchester City
Tottenham looked set to sign Morgan Gibbs-White earlier in this window.
The English midfielder would’ve been perfect for the North Londoners, but Nottingham Forest publicly blocked the move, and he ended up signing a new contract at the City Ground.
TBR Football revealed at the time that Manchester City’s James McAtee is on Tottenham’s four-man shortlist after missing out on Gibbs-White.
We also revealed a few days ago that Spurs are accelerating their plans for McAtee following the injury to Maddison.
Now, the player’s stance has emerged.
GiveMeSport have claimed that McAtee would be ‘very keen’ to join Tottenham, so much so that he is waiting for Thomas Frank’s side to make a formal offer.
Manchester City are demanding £40 million for McAtee, and the report says that Spurs are not fazed by that valuation at all.
It remains to be seen if Tottenham will make a move for the 22-year-old before their UEFA Super Cup clash against Paris Saint-Germain on Wednesday.

What Pep Guardiola said about James McAtee should excite Tottenham fans
McAtee has only played 1054 minutes of football for Manchester City, but he has managed to catch Pep Guardiola’s eye.
Back in January, after the youngster scored a hat-trick for the Blues in the FA Cup against Salford City, Guardiola heaped praise on him.
He said, as per Manchester City’s official website: “He’s a special, talented player.
“I’m not going to deny how happy I am. It’s not easy to score a hat trick, but he can play better. First half was not his best, and he has to do that.
“But he’s an exceptional guy and he has special talent. When he plays close to the opposition, he has an incredible sense of goal. His work ethic is unbelievable, and he is aggressive.”
