'Unbelievable': Paul Merson blown away by who Arsenal have managed to sign
Paul Merson has waxed lyrical about Arsenal striker Gabriel Jesus in his latest Daily Star column.
The Gunners legend spoke about the Emirates summer signing in the context of Chelsea’s transfer business.
Arsenal have bolstered their ranks significantly over the past few weeks.
Gabriel Jesus, Oleksandr Zinchenko, Fabio Vieira, Matt Turner and Marquinhos have all joined the Gunners.
Meanwhile, Chelsea have so far brought in Raheem Sterling and Kalidou Koulibaly.
Though they are both top-quality signings, Merson believes the Blues’ business has been “slow” so far.
Arsenal hammered Chelsea 4-0 in Orlando last weekend, with Jesus opening the scoring on 15 minutes.
“Why didn’t Chelsea have a look?”
Merson described Jesus as “unbelievable” in that game, and even claimed he might outscore Erling Haaland.
“I was at Chelsea vs Arsenal the other day in Florida,” began the Highbury icon.
“And Chelsea will have to pull up some trees to catch City and Liverpool.
“It’s plain to see they can’t play a back four.
“I go a lot and whenever they play it you might as well go home. It’s that extreme.
“I also don’t like Chelsea’s business, it’s been slow and could come back to haunt them.
“It’s why Thomas Tuchel is getting so frustrated.
“You look at the other side and Arsenal had Gabriel Jesus and you’re scratching your head. How did Arsenal get him?
“The kid is an out-and-out centre-forward, he may even outscore Haaland.
“He was unbelievable the other day, why didn’t Chelsea have a look?
“When I was walking out of the ground, fans were saying ‘it hasn’t started properly yet, wait until the season starts’ but not what I watched, that was alarming.”
