Leeds United look likely to be in the Championship play-offs and, barring a disastrous final two games of the season, should go into the tournament as the third-placed team.
At the moment, that would mean a two-legged clash with Derby County. To use an old cliche, you couldn’t write it.
Because it was, of course, Derby County, who were embroiled in the Leeds United ‘Spygate’ drama back in January.

That hypothetical was put to Sky Sports pundit Liam Rosenior this weekend during the Norwich City v Blackburn Rovers coverage (27/04/2019). The former England under-21 international suggested it was indicative of this unpredictable Championship campaign should Leeds and Derby battle it out in the play-offs.
“Unbelievable!
“It sums up this Championship season though how it has worked out. It has been an incredible season an absolute joy from start to finish. We have got a lot more storylines, twists and turns to come.”
For those who cannot recall, Leeds United and head coach Marcelo Bielsa found themselves in hot water after a member of the Leeds coaching staff was caught spying on Derby training ahead of their Championship clash.
It led to an incredible powerpoint presentation from the Argentine. He openly admitted Leeds had watched many of their opponents in training this season. Derby coach Lampard was left incensed by the incident, which Bielsa put down to cultural differences.
Leeds went on to win the game 2-0 in one of their best performances of the season. At the time, it moved the Whites five points clear in the automatic promotion hunt.
Derby would surely love to be the ones to end any hopes of that flagging promotion chase in the play-offs.
