Coming up to the Premier League is not easy.
Just look at the bottom three this season, Luton, Burnley and Sheffield United are all learning the hard way that the English top-flight is a different beast to the Championship.
Back in 2018, Conor Coady came up with Wolves, and speaking on the More Than a Game Podcast, the defender has been speaking about his first match in the league with Wolves.
Coady’s Wolves drew 2-2 with Everton on the opening day of the 2018/19 season, and while they got a result, Coady says that this game was an eye-opener.
Coady named Tottenham’s Richarlison as one player who shocked him during that game, stating that he scored a fantastic goal during the opening match, and the Brazilian’s performance on the day made him realise what the standard was like at the very top.

Richarlison shocked Coady
The defender spoke about the 26-year-old.
“That Everton game was a bit of an eye-opener, we came against players like Richarlison who were running us, and he scored a goal past my legs and the finish was unbelievable, and he curled it around me into the far corner, so that was a bit of an eye-opener for us that this was the level this,” Coady said.
Never easy
We have to sympathise with Coady here.
The gulf between the Premier League and the Championship is no joke, and when you’re welcomed to the league by a fully-fledged Brazil international, you’re bound to be a bit shocked.
Luckily, Coady did manage to acclimatise to the Premier League and become a stalwart for both Wolves and Everton, earning several England caps along the way, but those early matches must’ve been so tough.
We can imagine that facing a player like Richarlison after spending a lot of time in the EFL must’ve been a massive shock.
