Liverpool recorded an eighth successive win in all competitions on Saturday, but had to work hard for it.

The Reds were heavy favourites in their Premier League meeting with Norwich at Anfield.

Over the past few years, Liverpool have recorded numerous wins by three goals or more.

But on Saturday, the Reds contingent and fans were given a massive scare.

Liverpool had threatened the Norwich goal multiple times but, come half time, the score was still goalless.

Then, not long after the restart, the visitors grabbed the first goal of the game.

Milot Rashica’s effort from range flicked off Joel Matip’s leg and looped into the corner with Alisson stranded.

“You could hear a pin drop,” BBC Sport pundit Jonathan Woodgate said on Radio 5 Live (19/2/22, 16:09).

Luckily for the hosts, Liverpool managed to level just after the hour mark, and in style.

Sadio Mane weighed in with an acrobatic effort from Kostas Tsimikas’ header in the 64th minute.

“Took ten men out of the game”

Three minutes later, Liverpool turned the game around with their second.

Mohamed Salah raced onto a huge Alisson clearance to round Angus Gunn and slot home.

“The ball from Alisson was unbelievable,” said Woodgate (19/2/22, 16:25). “It took ten men out of the game.

“Salah took it in his stride. He jinked one way then jinked the other and rolled it into the net.”

And to cap off a marvellous afternoon for Liverpool, Luis Diaz got his first goal for the club.

Jordan Henderson split the Norwich defence with a through-ball for the January signing.

The Colombia international duly lifted the ball over Gunn to send the home crowd into raptures.

Woodgate lauded both Henderson and Diaz following Liverpool goal number three.

“It’s an unbelievable pass from Jordan Henderson,” Woodgate said (19/2/22, 16:25).

“But it’s the run that makes the pass.

“It’s a brilliant finish from Luis Diaz. He’s a perfect signing for Liverpool.”
