‘Unbelievable’ Arsenal strike target is available at cut price in January and he wants move to London

Arsenal failed to add a striker to their squad in the summer transfer window as Raheem Sterling proved to be their only attacking reinforcement.

Benjamin Sesko decided to stay at RB Leipzig to continue his development in Germany, while Alexander Isak proved to be too expensive.

Another striker Arsenal were linked with a move for is Viktor Gyokeres, who has enjoyed a stunning start to the new season.

Sporting CP President Frederico Varandas said last week that clubs must pay Gyokeres’ £86m release clause to sign him.

However, if reports are to be believed, Arsenal have been handed a boost in their pursuit of the Swedish international.

According to Football Transfers, Arsenal are keeping tabs on the 26-year-old ahead of the January transfer window, with Sporting open to the possibility of letting him go for a fee that is ‘substantially below’ his release clause.

Gyokeres is said to be ‘disappointed’ that a transfer didn’t materialise this summer and is keen on a move to London.

The report also states that with the Gunners keen on signing an out-and-out number nine, they will continue to scout the Swede over the next few months.

Gyokeres has been hailed as an ‘unbelievable’ striker by Coventry City manager Mark Robins during his spell with the club and is one of the most lethal strikers in Europe at the moment.

How has Gyokeres fared this season?

Gyokeres has raced off the blocks for club and country this season and has already scored 12 goals in all competitions for Sporting and Sweden.

The 26-year-old has scored in each Liga NOS game for Ruben Amorim’s side – including a hat-trick against Farense in late August – and is proving to be impossible to contain.

Arsenal are one world-class number nine away from having a starting XI with no glaring goals and it remains to be seen if they pursue a move for Gyokeres in 2025.

The 26-year-old is no stranger to English football, having enjoyed stints with Coventry and Swansea City and won’t have too much of an issue adapting to the Premier League if he secures a transfer in the future.
