Arsenal manager Unai Emery has outlined just how he and his team have managed to turn Matteo Guendouzi into one of the most promising young players in the Premier League.
The French starlet has made a brilliant start to the new season for the Gunners, starting every game so far.
The 20-year-old came in for huge praise after playing a starring role against Tottenham Hotspur before the international break.
Supporters have been delighted to witness Guendouzi stepping up to the plate, and hope he can continue his promising rate of development.
Speaking about the former Lorient midfielder, Emery said (via the club’s official website): “He was very young, but his ambition and his wish to adapt very quickly, as well as his quality, were very good for us. He started playing and training with us, and after, his progress and development during the season was amazing.
“But also, we were working with him on some details we needed to improve with him – his food, his body, how we can work to make it stronger, his arms, his body, his legs.”
Guendouzi would often be out-muscled in his debut season, so Arsenal fans will be pleased to hear that Emery and his staff have been helping the youngster with that.
In the new season he has seemed better at protecting the ball and fending off opponents and being generally more combative.
Given the position he plays it’s going to be very important for him to develop physically as well as technically.
Standing at 6ft 1in tall, Guendouzi has good natural height to operate as a defensive shield and bulking up is going to stand him in brilliant stead going forwards.
