Arsenal’s disappointing season continued this week as they were knocked out of the League Cup by Manchester City.
The Gunners have been in poor form throughout the campaign and are currently looking more likely to have a relegation battle on their hands rather than push for European football.
It is quite the disappointing turnaround for Mikel Arteta, who led Arsenal to an FA Cup triumph last season and had looked to have arrested the slide at The Emirates under the management of Unai Emery.
Arsenal fans were glad to see the back of Arteta’s countryman after Emery struggled to bring consistent results to North London.

So news of Emery’s success elsewhere might not put a smile on Arsenal faces.
Emery is thriving in his new role as head coach at Villarreal.
The Spanish side are currently fourth in La Liga and just six points off Atletico Madrid at the top of the table.
They are also into the next round of the Europa League and last night they drew 1-1 with Athletic Bilbao to break a club record.
Emery has now led the Yellow Submarine to 19 games without defeat, surpassing their previous record. Villarreal have not lost a game since a 4-0 defeat to Barcelona back in September. That remains Emery’s side’s only loss of the season so far.
Arsenal fans will just hope that Arteta can bring some similar form to North London as soon as possible.
