Unai Emery asked if Mesut Ozil could captain Arsenal at Liverpool
Unai Emery has suggested, in comments reported by Football London, that there is a chance that Mesut Ozil could captain Arsenal in their Carabao Cup tie against Liverpool.
Ozil’s situation has been major talking point throughout the campaign. The German has only made two appearances for the Gunners in all competitions. And he has rarely been included in the club’s match day squads.

With the pressure mounting on Emery, some Arsenal fans appear to be hoping that he will turn to Ozil. Some have voiced their support for the 31-year-old by singing his name from the stands.

And after confirming that the former Real Madrid man will be back involved for Wednesday’s tie with the Reds, Emery hinted that he could hand the midfielder the armband for the game.

“It depends. He could be yes,” he said, as reported by Football London.
It does appear that leaving Ozil out is doing Emery few favours. He has come in for plenty of criticism during his time with the club. But he is also one of the players capable of producing a moment of sheer brilliance out of nothing.
And with the first-team struggling for results at the moment, it is baffling many that Emery seems to be so reluctant to hand Ozil another chance.
But with Emery suggesting that Ozil could captain the side at Anfield, perhaps there is reason to believe that Wednesday’s game could prove to be a real turning point – perhaps, for more than one figure at the Emirates.
