Umar Sadiq finds the way to goal following Rangers nightmare

Umar Sadiq is a name bound to send shivers down the spine of Rangers supporters.

The striker was one of Steven Gerrard’s first signings when he checked in at Ibrox – but his dream quickly became a nightmare.

Arriving from Roma, the uncompromising frontman was anticipated to be a shrewd addition to the Rangers ranks.

That never transpired and his season-long loan was terminated just six months and four appearances in.

Sadiq failed to find the net for Rangers, starting just once against Aberdeen in the Scottish League Cup – a game in which Gerrard saw his team lose 1-0.

After a pretty ordinary spell with Perugia during the second half of 2018/19, the striker has hardly been able to catch a breath from scoring goals.

Last season he scored 17 times and registered as many assists, helping Partizan Belgrade to a second-place finish.

The Serbian outfit made the move permanent and scored six goals and claimed two assists during the first half of 2020/21.

His form has now earned him a move to Spain where he continues to shine.

Last night he netted his fifth goal for Almeria as they defeated Real Zaragoza 1-0 in Segunda Division.

Sadiq signed for the Spanish outfit for £4.5 million and was handed a five-year deal by the La Liga hopefuls.

Although they haven’t won silverware under Gerrard just yet, that should end during 2020/21.

The Teddy Bears are 13 points clear of Celtic at the summit of the Scottish Premiership and are firmly on track.

For Sadiq, the challenge is to continue scoring goals and hopefully earn a crack at La Liga with his new club.

Rangers fans might watch with intrigue.
