U23 Leeds star with six goals in 10 confirms injury on Instagram story

Max Dean has been in stunning form for Leeds United’s Under-23 side when given the chance by Mark Jackson, but the striker has now confirmed that he has suffered a sizable injury – with a post on his Instagram story on Tuesday afternoon.

Despite the form of the likes of Sam Greenwood and Joe Gelhardt in the final third, Dean has broken into the Leeds reserve team this season. Even with Jackson giving Bobby Kamwa plenty of chances, Dean’s goal rate is hard to be ignored.

Still only 17, Dean is playing above the curve with the 23’s – but has still managed to score six goals in 10 Under-23 outings this season. Indeed, Dean has four goals in eight PL2 appearances while also netting twice in a penalty-shootout defeat to Barrow.

But it is now likely to be a while before Leeds fans see Dean turn out with the reserves again. That is because the young attacker has confirmed on his Instagram story, with the upload of a picture, that he is in a protective boot and on crutches.

TBR’s view – Dean not need rush back

He has already shown Jackson and Leeds that not only has he got enormous potential given he is still only 17, but that he is more than capable of scoring goals at the Premier League 2 level. He has a huge chance of breaking into the first team in years to come.

Dean could limit his recovery and rush back, as he looks to increase his chances of first-team involvement. But given that he is ahead of the curve, and that Gelhardt and Greenwood could be in the first team next term – Dean is better of being patient.
