Tyrone Mings’ versatility makes him the ideal defensive target for Aston Villa

Aston Villa and West Bromwich Albion are ready to battle for Tyrone Mings on loan, according to The Express and Star.

Mings is out of favour at Bournemouth and is ready to drop down a division on loan to get some playing time.

Comfortable at either centre-half or left-back, Mings is perfect for Aston Villa.

The 25-year-old is a towering 6ft 5in defender who is tough to beat in the air. But his ability on the ball allows him to operate as a full-back as well.

Aston Villa have leaked goals this season and conceded two against Hull City yesterday.

Having shipped 45 league goals in 28 games, it is no surprise to see them sitting in 13th place.

If Dean Smith is to build a promotion chasing squad this season, he needs to immediately address the defensive situation.

Neil Taylor has struggled at left-back and Mings is an immediate improvement in that department.

Smith might even choose to use the ex-Ipswich Town defender in central defence if James Chester, Tommy Elphick and Kortney Hause are injured or out of form.

Mings will be looking for game time, having only played seven games this season. And Aston Villa can offer him first-team action, unlike West Brom, who have Kieran Gibbs playing well.

Versatile defender Mings is the ideal short-term fix that Smith needs to lift Aston Villa up the league table.
