Arsenal youngster Folarin Balogun enjoyed a night to remember last night as the Gunners defeated Molde 3-0 to progress to the knockout stages of the Europa League.
The 19-year-old entered the fray in the 83rd minute and just 37 seconds later scored his first goal for the senior ranks, capping a successful night for Mikel Arteta’s men.
It was a nice moment for the youngster and with each minute he plays under the Arsenal boss, surely he’s more likely to rethink his previous decision not to pen a contract extension.
Following his first senior goal, he took to Instagram to share a message to the Arsenal fanbase and admitted it was a special moment in the early stages of his career.
Balogun has scored goals for fun the various levels at academy level and the next stage in his career is to be featuring more often for the first-team.
Arteta appears to want to keep the youngster around but will need to act quickly with his contract expiring during the summer.
Following his Instagram post, one of his former teammates for the Arsenal youth team, Tyreece John-Jules responded.
John-Jules is currently on loan at Doncaster Rovers and many Arsenal supporters have also backed him to eventually make an impact on the first-team.
The 19-year-old is currently nursing an injury but has scored one goal and registered one assist during four appearances for Darren Moore’s outfit during 2020/21.
Some thought John-Jules might make the first-team before Balogun but the roles have been reversed somewhat.
The challenge for Balogun now is to continue grasping his chances with both hands when Arteta calls upon him.
Surely a new contract beckons for the man who could take the Gunners by storm.
