After being patient for months as he overcame injury problems of his own and then having seen injuries hit both Kemar Roofe and Patrick Bamford, Tyler Roberts finally got his first chance to start for Leeds United in the Championship.
The 19-year-old Welsh international joined from West Bromwich Albion in January but had not made a league start for the club until he was selected by Marcelo Bielsa as the lone striker at The Den against Millwall.
Roberts got himself in many threatening positions but failed to convert, leaving his team to rely on loanee Jack Harrison to score an 89th minute equaliser.
“Some people value strikers when they score a goal. But I prefer to value them taking into account the number of chances they have.”
The former Oxford, Shrewsbury and Walsall loanee showed pace and movement and was picked out by his team-mates on a few occasions, though it was clear that the play was not as free flowing as it had been in recent weeks.
In the end, a draw was enough to keep the Whites top of the Championship as the team remain in pole position for promotion to the Premier League this season despite the season having only begun just over a month ago.
Marcelo Bielsa stuck up for his player after the game, despite criticism from unimpressed fans who had been expecting more on his debut, and looks set to stick with him, even if because he has few other options.
