Tyler Roberts’ reported valuation represents impressive Leeds United turnaround

The Daily Mail are suggesting that Leeds United may have a fight on their hands to keep hold of scout Craig Dean. The former Newcastle United and Oxford United is head of emerging talent at Elland Road and is reportedly being eyed by Premier League and Championship clubs this summer.

The report also highlights some of his success stories. He was reportedly behind the interest in Swansea City winger Daniel James in January. It is also reported that he headed up the interest in Tyler Roberts in January 2018.

The report goes on to suggest that Leeds paid £2.5 million for the Welsh attacker but could now fetch up to three times that amount – £7.5 million, if they wanted to sell the former West Brom man.

Of course, there is no suggestion that Leeds are interested in selling Roberts. However, it does highlight the great steps he has made at Elland Road last season.

In the summer, it looked like the Welshman could be a Leeds flop. He did not feature for the club under Paul Heckingbottom after picking up a broken foot in an early training session at Thorp Arch.

He was then looking unlikely to get a chance in the Leeds starting XI this season under Marcelo Bielsa. However, injuries quickly saw him play on an increasingly regular basis. He played 31 times last season in a number of different positions and it is important to remember he is still only 20-years-old.

If he can continue to grow at this rate, early naysayers will happily eat some humble pie.
